One of the most popular places for recreation and walks in the city is the Park of Culture and Leisure. M. Gorky. It belongs to the monuments of landscape architecture of Melitopol and includes a huge variety of flora.

In addition to picturesque alleys, amusement rides have been built on the territory of the park, forming the Polyana Skazok complex, as well as a host of other entertainment infrastructure facilities.

The park was laid out in the 27th year of the 20th century according to the project of the chief forester of the Staroberdyansk forestry enterprise Alekseev. He also provided the first trees for planting. The complex was founded on a site that had been empty for a long time. It is noteworthy that the territory of 7 hectares was dug manually, without the use of special equipment. For this, volunteers employed at local enterprises, caring residents of the city and even students were involved. Already 7 years later, the park was expanded to 27 hectares, and acquired a summer stage, a playground, and decorative elements.

A little later, a children's railway was laid through the park. L. Kaganovich, through which a train of six cars and a steam locomotive was launched.

The train passed through two stations to them. P. Morozov and "Pioneer". He also had his own depot. But, unfortunately, the object was destroyed during the Great Patriotic War. In memory of him, only the station "Pionerskaya" remained, where today the educational building of the city gymnasium is located.
The park itself was restored after the Victory. In the 60-70s of the last century, large-scale reconstruction and improvement works took place here.
On the territory of the park today you can see about 50 species of trees and another 30 species of shrubs. Many of the local centenarians are around 80 years old. Also, exotic plants were planted in the park, brought here from other climatic zones, but perfectly acclimatized in a new place. These include orange mackerel, berry yew, drooping forsythia, European cercis. A huge number of visitors of all ages come to see this splendor.
