Once its history began with a small collection based on the local library. Today it is a three-story institution with a multi-thousand exposition, which is located in several thematic halls. One of the oldest places of worship in the Melitopol region is the Holy Trinity Church. It is located in the village of Kiziyar, Melitopol region. Despite the trials that fell on the fate of the building during the years of the Bolshevik persecution of the church, as well as the period of the Great Patriotic War, the temple exists and continues to operate in our time.
Another ancient temple of Melitopol, the memory of which still lives on, was consecrated in the name of the blessed prince Alexander Nevsky and built in the second half of the 19th century. However, at the beginning of the last century, the building was completely rebuilt. And during the period of the Bolshevik persecution it was completely destroyed.
Later, a covered market appeared on the foundations of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. And with the beginning of World War II, an Orthodox cathedral was opened in the former Armenian-Gregorian church, which was named the same and today is the main Orthodox site of the city.
