An important place in the cultural and spiritual life of Melitopol, whose webcams can be viewed on this site, is occupied by its temples.

Many of the city's Orthodox sites have a long history and unique architectural appearance.

The main cult object of Melitopol, whose webcams can be viewed in real time, is the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.

It was built on the site of an earlier Armenian-Gregorian church of the 19th century, built on the initiative of the Evpatorian petty bourgeoisie Averik Khlebnikov. After the Revolution, the temple fell into disrepair. The complex of the dairy research laboratory is located here. And during the years of the Nazi occupation of Melitopol, an Orthodox cathedral appeared here, consecrated in honor of Alexander Nevsky, after which another temple was called, located nearby and destroyed by the Bolsheviks in the 30s of the last century.
After the Victory, the authorities decided to close the new church. But the believers managed to defend the shrine. Until 1973, the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral was the only open temple in the city.
Already in our century, a large-scale reconstruction of the building was carried out. The frescoes were completely rewritten, the iconostasis was replaced. Also, as part of the restoration project, a floor heating system was created, the shape of the domes was changed, and a new chapter was built over the altar. The old bell tower received an additional upper tier.

Another ancient temple named after the Archangel Michael is located in the village of Tikhonovka, Melitopol region.

The building was erected at the end of the 19th century and is considered the oldest temple in the Melitopol region. It has features of Byzantine religious architecture and was consecrated at the beginning of the last century. The stone building replaced several wooden churches that were built on this site and were destroyed by fire each time. Many experts believe that the foundation on which the current temple is erected is more than 1000 years old. Before the Revolution, a wooden iconostasis was located within the walls of the building. And during the Second World War, a hospital worked here.
The Nazis, who liberated the city under the onslaught of the Red Army, wanted to blow up the building together with the residents of Tikhonovka. But, fortunately, this plan was prevented.

Therefore, today residents and guests of Melitopol can see a historical object that has gone through difficult and sad events in history and has recently received the status of one of the Seven Wonders of the Melitopol Territory.
