In the Balaklava region of Sevastopol, there is a group of Fedyukhin's hills. They are in relation to each other in the shape of a horseshoe and border on the city of Gasfort and Sapun Mountain on the left bank of the Chernaya River.
The name of the heights appeared in the Crimean War, when the officer Fedyukhin, for the first time with his soldiers, set up a camp at these heights. It was here that the most bloody battles took place during the Battle of Chernorechensky, about which the great classic L.N. Tolstoy even wrote.
This place is forever associated with the history of the Crimean War. Russian regiments were stationed here during the Battle of Balaklava. The entire valley is clearly visible from here to this day. And many historical landscapes have survived to this day. There is also evidence of French camp sites. The dugouts that the French built here are today an object of cultural and historical heritage.
Also, this place is associated with the events of the Great Patriotic War, in particular with the period of the battles for Sevastopol near Sapun Mountain.
Now, on Fedyukhin's Heights, a festival of historical reconstruction is held every year, during which various pages of the Crimean and Sevastopol chronicles, as well as events from world history, are restored. Hundreds of reenactors from various parts of the peninsula and other countries come here to participate in the festival. A fascinating action opens before the guests of the event, telling about the traditions and culture of different times, key events in the life of cities and countries, starting from antiquity, ending with the last wars of the 20th century.
In 2020, the "Park of Living History" was opened on the Fedyukhin Heights, which is open all year round. We have been working on the construction of a complex with an area of 129 hectares for 6 years. There are several open-air museums located here, the exposition and furnishings of which correspond to a particular historical era.
The creators of the park managed to implement a large-scale cultural, educational and tourist project. Models of real buildings (scale 1: 1), including internal and external equipment, have been recreated for certain on the territory. At the same time, each site is at a sufficient distance from the others so that no foreign objects from another time can be seen from it.
In the park on the Fedyukhin Heights, you can see the Roman Fort Kastrum dating back to the 1st-3rd centuries, the Genoese estate Loko Chimbali (15th century), as well as the historical site "The First Defense of Sevastopol" (1854-1855).
