Sevastopol is a city with which the memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, the Crimean and other wars is inextricably linked. This city managed to carry its unique, bright image through the centuries, despite the fact that it was almost destroyed to the ground.
Residents of Sevastopol carefully pass from generation to generation the memory of the outstanding events that took place on this land at different times. And numerous city monuments, memorial complexes, museums help in this.
One of the oldest and most beautiful locations in Sevastopol is the Kornilov embankment. It is located in the historic heart of the city, in a popular tourist center in the east of Artbukhta. The embankment stretches for 2 km from the Grafskaya pier to the beach "Cape Khrustalny".
The coastal strip, enveloping the edge of the sea in a bizarre, winding ribbon, is surrounded by houses. And at the very shore there are no obstacles. Therefore, in a strong storm, the chance to get wet increases.
Previously, the embankment was called Primorskaya. It was laid simultaneously with the founding of Sevastopol in 1783. At that time, it was not so spacious, but almost immediately became a favorite place for walks of local residents and managed to carry this status through the centuries.
After the First Defense of Sevastopol, the embankment was named after the war hero - Admiral Kornilov. With the arrival of the Soviet Union, the location was renamed. She received the name of Engels. But the townspeople did not support the initiative of the new authorities, and a year after the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the embankment was returned to its historical name.
Other changes that took place in the history of the embankment affected it not so painlessly. So, being vulnerable from the sea, it was almost completely destroyed by the strongest storm at the beginning of our century.
After a thorough reconstruction, timed to coincide with the 225th anniversary of the founding of the city, the Kornilov embankment again opened its arms for the residents and guests of Sevastopol. In the same period, a new attraction appeared nearby - a sundial. Otherwise, the architectural style of the location has been recreated for certain in its original form.
Today the Kornilov Embankment is considered a real treasury of all kinds of sights and monuments. It is here that the history of tsarist Russia is clearly captured. The main tourist locations bordering the embankment are the Grafskaya pier, Nakhimov square with the monument to the admiral, the monument to the Scuttled ships, the monument to the sailors of Ochakov. A huge number of beautiful, cozy establishments are concentrated here - restaurants, cafes, bars, which are always ready to please guests with exquisite cuisine.
