Most tourists come to the southern side of the Sevastopol Bay, where most of the local attractions and the city center with outstanding monuments and museums are located. But, nevertheless, on the North side of the city there are also many interesting locations and objects. So, for example, it is here that the village of Uchkuevka is located, which, although it is territorially divided with the center of Sevastopol, is part of the city.
In ancient times, these lands were called Uch-Kuyu and originally belonged to the Mangup principality, which was conquered by the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century and later became part of the independent Crimean Khanate. The name of the settlement was translated as “three wells”.
Later, when Crimea joined the Russian Empire, Uchkuevka belonged to the Simferopol district. One of the local attractions, the Catherine Mile, recalls the period when Crimea became Russian, and the Great Empress visited her new possessions.
Since the beginning of the 19th century, the lands of Uchkuevka became the property of Admiral Ushakov. And today the village belongs to the Nakhimovsky district of Sevastopol.
The northern side of the Sevastopol Bay is reliably guarded by two military fortresses - Mikhailovskaya and Konstantinovskaya batteries, which display unique expositions dedicated to the Crimean and Great Patriotic War. The St. Nicholas Church, located on the territory of the Bratsk cemetery, where there are 200 mass graves and monuments erected in honor of the participants in the defense of Sevastopol, will remind about the same period in the history of the city and the country.
From here it is also easy to get to Inkerman, with its cave monastery, as well as the Kalamita fortress, which is located on the Monastery Hill. There is also a quarry where Inkerman limestone is mined.
Many people use Uchkuevka as a transit point. After all, from here begins the Great Sevastopol Trail with the Chernorechensky canyon, cave cities and ancient monasteries. In addition to hiking and car travel, horseback riding, as well as thip tours are available to tourists.
Other entertainments include diving, kayaking, paddle boarding. Equipment rental is available right on the beach.
Special attention should be paid to boat trips. After all, the Sevastopol Bay is considered one of the most beautiful on the Crimean coast.
