The Crotone webcam broadcasts a panoramic view of the coast and the Aragonese castle of Le Castella in real time.
The castle is located in the city center on Piazza Castello. Now it is the remains of a medieval fortress.
In the Italian province of Calabria, there is an ancient port city called Crotone, whose webcams are available on the site.
It stands on the shores of the Ionian Sea and has many architectural sights. Among them is a monument to Raffaele Lucente.
Raffaele Lucente is a democratic politician. He was born in Crotone on April 25, 1831. He studied medicine in Naples, receiving the title of surgeon. Initially, he devoted himself to the medical profession, achieving good fame even outside the Alps. He began his political career after serving as a municipal councilor in 1866. Already in 1867 he became mayor of Crotone. He held this position several times (again from 1876 to 1881 and from 1889 to 1890).
Directly a monument to him was commissioned by the sculptor Francesco Gerasa. It was one of the most successful Calabrian artists internationally. Made between 1890 and 1893, it was first placed in Piazza Raffaele Lucente (now Piazza Pytagora). In 1957 it was moved to the Villa Comunale in Crotone, where it now stands.
Webcams make it possible to walk around the city online.
The former mayor of Lucente is shot with a half-bust with a thick mustache and a stern look. Hanging from the neck is the collar of the commander of the Order of the Crown of Italy, whose honor the politician was awarded on December 13, 1877. This distinctive sign consists of 4 coats of arms connected by Savoyard knots with a round image of the Iron Crown in the center.
The white marble bust was repeatedly attacked by vandals, so now its condition is deplorable. In addition to inscriptions and graffiti that disfigure the face, part of the chin, the right ear and eyebrow, cheekbones and nose are scratched. The bust stands on a gray granite pedestal.
Lucente, portrayed by Jerace, is stern and firm, though not static, due to his very slight turn to one side. The sculptor, despite the similarity of poses and forms, manages to never repeat himself, characterizing each object unambiguously. A comparison can be made with another portrait of him, Armando Lucifero, in the square of the same name. The latter shows more delicacy in the rendering of traits and character than Lucente, from whom, instead, greater stamina and dignity flow together with a lively naturalness. Despite the limited almost photographic similarity of the subject, Jerace always remains free in the compositional concept. Always attentive to movement and chiaroscuro contrast, he does not miss the new cultural trends of verismo sculpture, which he uses within the compositional classicism dear to him.
Crotone is not so popular city, but definitely worth a visit, real-time webcams will allow you to enjoy its landscapes.
