The historic center of Crotone, whose webcams are available on the site, is easily recognizable.
First of all, this is due to the fact that it is located on a hill, not far from the sea and surrounded by a 16th century wall. According to archaeologists, it was here that the acropolis of ancient Croton stood.
It is said that this place, among other buildings, housed the Temple of the Muses, where the Pythagorean school, known throughout the Mediterranean, was located. The city has been subjected over the centuries to various foreign dominations, the influence of which is reflected in the heterogeneous style of its ancient center. For example, here you can see many terraced houses, narrow and winding streets, in which religious buildings and noble palaces appear, concentrated in the squares. Political and religious influence is integrated into public life, where there are shops of merchants and artisans, but on which the main part of the church, monastery, noble palace is imprinted.
The historic center of Crotone, whose webcams allow you to walk around the city in real time, was once enclosed in walls.
Most of them were demolished shortly after the unification of Italy, characterized by narrow streets and squares dominated by noble palaces.
Among the most famous is the Palazzo Galluccio. Currently owned by the Lucifero family, who became his heir. There are historical facts that confirm its existence as far back as 1699. Rebuilt in 1809 with neoclassical façades that follow the example of Roman architecture, it has a round-arched portal, surmounted by a balustraded balcony supported by two pairs of plain-stemmed double columns and a Doric-style capital. The elegant and massive noble building has a magnificent garden on the ramparts, closed by a gate on which stands the coat of arms of the family.
