Despite the fact that only faint echoes have remained from the primary grandeur of the Kherson fortress, the inhabitants of the city cherish the memory of its founder. A monument to the outstanding public, political and military figure, Grigory Alexandrovich, rises in the Potemkin Square. An interesting object, which was built over 100 years ago, is the Tsarina-Alexander Church. It bears the name of the holy Martyr Alexandra and was erected as a home church for the pupils of the Women's Gymnasium. The temple has a graceful appearance, made in the best traditions of Moscow religious architecture of the 17th century.
