Live webcams in Kherson - sights of the city

Kherson webcams, which you can watch online without leaving your home, on this site will help you get to know this small cozy town in southern Ukraine, which was founded during the reign of Catherine II and today is ready to please travelers with interesting places and unusual objects.
Grigory Potemkin, who built Kherson, originally wanted to make southern Petersburg out of this place. However, not all of the plans of Prince Tavrichesky were destined to come true. This city went down in history as a city of sailors and shipbuilders. After all, it is Kherson that is considered the cradle of the Black Sea Fleet.

Today Kherson is the largest port on the Dnieper, as well as an important seaport.

On its streets, many historical buildings and cozy green areas have been preserved, which ennoble the endless Ukrainian steppes, among which this city is spread.

One of the outstanding places of worship in Kherson is the Catherine's Cathedral.

It was built in the 18th century and was consecrated in the name of St. Catherine of Alexandria, whose name was given to the German princess Federica, who went down in history as the autocrat of the Russian Empire, Catherine the Great. The structure was built of Ingulets limestone in the features of Russian classicism, which vaguely resemble antique architecture. The building was equipped with a four-column portico, as well as a low dome, crowning the structure and collecting it into a single composition. Sculptures depicting Orthodox saints were placed in the outer niches. The central entrance was decorated with statues of the Apostle Peter holding the keys to paradise, as well as the Apostle Paul with a sword in his hand. This choice of sculptures was not made by chance. They became a symbol of the fact that the "keys" to the southern lands were obtained during hard battles. On the western side of the cathedral you can see a bronze and gilded inscription that reads "Catherine II dedicates to the Savior of the human race."

The construction of the Catherine Cathedral was the first step in transforming Kherson into an analogue of St. Petersburg.

The temple was part of the architectural complex of the Kherson fortress, which became the first ensemble made in the classical style on the territory of Ukraine. The fortress itself was founded three years earlier than the temple. And the temple, according to the design documents, changed its appearance and location four times.
Today, within the walls of the cathedral, in a separate crypt, the remains of Grigory Alexandrovich are kept. The monument to the great statesman and military leader adorns the city center, on Potemkin Boulevard. It is noteworthy that this sculpture was restored from the original already in our century. The original analogue was closed from the public eye after the Revolution, and with the retreat of the Nazis in 1944, it disappeared altogether.

The Kherson fortress with an arsenal deserves special attention, which today is an open-air museum.

During the time of Catherine II, the building was a powerful defense facility. Behind the impregnable walls and an earthen rampart was hidden a spacious area with a square, the palace of Field Marshal Potemkin, St. Catherine's Cathedral, and other objects of fortification infrastructure.
The building of the arsenal, the powder magazine, which today has been converted into a restaurant, as well as two gates - Moscow and Ochakovsky, have survived to this day. In our time, Scythian burials have been found on the territory of the fortress.
The Admiralty Arsenal is one of the oldest buildings on the territory of Kherson. Unfortunately, the original building was badly damaged during the earthquake and was practically rebuilt from scratch.

Along with architectural monuments, there are many garden and park ensembles in Kherson.

One of them is the Park of Glory, which is located not far from the Catherine Cathedral. The park was founded in honor of the heroes-liberators of the Second World War. On its territory there is a monument to the Grieving Mother and the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Together, these two sites form a memorial complex. There are many steps leading to the statue, along which there are parapets with commemorative tables containing the names of those killed for the liberation of the Kherson region.
Another outstanding monument is dedicated to the Kherson Shipyards. He personifies the memory of the first shipbuilders who glorified this city. The monument is placed on a high pedestal faced with light tiles, which is crowned by a huge frigate. On the base there is a plate telling that in 1783 a 66-gun battleship was launched here, which was called "The Glory of Catherine".
Such famous ships of the imperial fleet as "Kherson", "Terrible", "Brave" and many others were created at the Kherson shipyard. The ships were sent for service to Sevastopol. The monument to the Shipbuilders can be seen if you walk along the city embankment.

If there are no plans to visit this amazing city yet, Kherson webcams, which you can watch online without leaving your home, will allow you to open your horizons and take an exciting online walk.
