Cossack, whose webcams can be viewed on this site, is a small urban-type settlement located in the Berislavsky district of the Kherson region of Ukraine.
The settlement is located near the famous Kakhovska hydroelectric power station on the right bank of the Dnieper River.
The village owes its name to a far from outstanding historical past. The fact is that the Dnieper branch of the Kazak passes next to the Cossack.
The village was founded in the 18th century as the estate of Count Osterman, who at that time owned these territories. At that time, a little more than 100 people lived in the village, who were resettled by the count from several Russian provinces.
Later, the Trubetskoys began to own these lands. To this day, the ancient ruins of a palace with an outbuilding have been preserved in Cossack. The Trubetskoy estate is a unique monument of landscape architecture. The main building, with its towers, gates, bridges, flying buttresses, amazes the imagination. Initially, the building was created in an eclectic style, incorporating features of the Renaissance and Gothic. The complex resembled a fairytale castle, complemented by a stunning garden and natural landscapes. The authorities are planning to carry out a large-scale reconstruction here.
During the possession of these lands by the Trubetskoys, a large stud farm was built, and extensive vineyards were planted.
Raw materials from local vineyards were used to produce delicious drinks, which were made according to the prince's recipes. It is noteworthy that Lev Golitsyn himself recommended the varieties for planting to the prince. Several years later, Cossack wines were awarded various domestic and foreign awards. Near Cossack, in the village of Veseloe, an old winery still operates. Today it is called JSC Im. Prince Trubetskoy. The enterprise was founded on the basis of the richest wine cellars of a nobleman. The main building of the winery is an architectural monument of the Art Nouveau style of the early XX century.
Near the plant, near the banks of the Dnieper, there are the ruins of a medieval watchtower dating from the 16th-17th centuries. Its ancient walls, reaching a thickness of two meters, have survived to this day.
Among other sights of Kazatsky there is a monument to Bogdan Khmelnitsky, as well as the famous Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, which is located 10 minutes' drive from the village. The enterprise is not only one of the largest of its kind in the entire country, but also a unique monument of industrial architecture of the 20th century.
For those who are not yet planning a trip to Ukraine, Kazatsky's webcams will allow them to feel its unusual atmosphere.
