Where the Russians plan to go in the summer of 2020

A quarter of Russians planning a trip abroad this summer changed their plans due to restrictions associated with the outbreak of coronavirus. This was told at the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinions.

VTsIOM experts found out how the plans of Russian tourists for holidays for May Day and the summer season have changed due to widespread restrictions. The data obtained were compared with the previous year. According to the survey, it turned out that 57% of Russians will spend May holidays and summer holidays at home. Although it is likely that many of them simply hide the real plans. Last year, those wishing to stay home instead of a picnic in nature or a trip abroad were 25% less.

A third of the respondents intend to spend the weekend and summer months in the country (35%). Last year, this figure was 10% less, because many chose to go on a trip to Russia or fly to another country.

Every 10th respondent (11%) plans a trip to another city in Russia. This figure has remained unchanged since last year. Some are going to relax on the Black Sea (6%). Although the situation with accommodation facilities that are still closed is still unclear. Last year, these data were identical.

5% of our compatriots are still hoping to go abroad. Although many claim that it will be impossible to do this in the summer.

According to the All-Russian Center, 26% of citizens changed their vacation plans in April 2020. Back in March, they were 9% less. The main reason for abandoning one's desires is a pandemic (50% of respondents named it). Also 34% said they changed plans due to quarantine. And 11% - due to the closure of borders.

It is characteristic that back in March there were 15% more respondents who considered the ruble to fall and the global crisis to be the main obstacle to the implementation of vacation plans.

In addition to preferences, experts also found out what sentiments prevail among Russians who are forced to abandon the planned trip. 15% were upset by the changes, 11% of those surveyed were disappointed. 10% experienced negative emotions, and another 9% are sad about this. Only 9% of Russians reacted calmly to the changes. Every 10th survey participant gave a neutral assessment of the situation.
