Venice plans to equip routes for tourists with disabilities. Part 2

Venice plans to equip routes for tourists with disabilities. Part 2 At the first stage of the project implementation, the most famous bridges will be equipped with ramps, which will also be interconnected. This will allow wheelchair users to navigate the city using clear routes.

They will run from Ponte de la Crozé via Santa Croce and San Polo to the river bus (Vaporeto) stop in Sao Toma. Further, with the help of the "Vaporeto", it will be possible to get across the main city canal to San Samuele and continue moving along the Ponte dei Frati, connected to the Santo Stefano and Sant'Angelo squares.

Then, having already passed the outstanding Opera La Fenice, it will be possible to get to the Cathedral of St. Mark.

In addition to this route, the steps leading to pl. Campo della Misericordia, home to Venice's main nightlife venues.

The second route will be laid on about. Giudecca, next to a stop at a residential area that is increasing its tourist popularity every year.

It is noteworthy that the ramps for Venice are not unusual. They are installed for an international sports competition every year, and some of them are not even dismantled after the end of the event (for example, on one of the city's embankments). But people themselves note that the structures remain unclaimed, because travel through them is usually difficult due to the large number of ordinary tourists.

The project for the construction of new routes will be approved by representatives of the city executive authority, and then submitted to a tender. A period of several months has been allocated for the completion of the project.

Interestingly, the problem with the movement of wheelchair users and people with limited vision in Venice has been so acute and acute that a few years ago two gondoliers developed a project to modify the gondolas to enable wheelchair access. However, despite the fact that the project could have been successfully implemented, it did not receive adequate funding and was ignored.
