Venice plans to equip routes for tourists with disabilities. Part 1

Venice plans to equip routes for tourists with disabilities. Part 1 In Venice, there is practically no opportunity for wheelchair users to move. Of course, there are water buses adapted for people with disabilities in the city, but as it turned out, this type of transport is only available on 2-3 routes.

Therefore, the city authorities decided to change this state of affairs and make the main attractions of Venice accessible to people with disabilities, laying a special "wheelchair" route for them. It will run from the central entrance to the city to the main square of San Marco.

The first stage will be the construction of 6 ramps in the most important areas of Venice: at the Cathedral of St. Mark (4 pieces) and in one of the residential areas (the rest). 900 thousand euros have been allocated for the implementation of this project. For these funds, it will be possible to lay the first route, allowing people of all ages and physical abilities to walk from Piazza Roma to San Marco.

The city administration declares with confidence that after the completion of the work, Venice for the first time in its centuries-old chronicle will become accessible both for wheelchair users and for people with low vision. To do this, on some bridges, even the top coating is changed so that it is not so slippery.

At the same time, many experts note that it is always problematic to introduce any changes in Venice. After all, there is probably no other city on the planet with so many laws regulating the preservation of cultural and historical heritage. Many changes need to be coordinated not only with the executive authorities, but also with the international organization UNESCO.
