Bali's amazing traditions

Bali's amazing traditions Picturesque landscapes, warm sandy beaches and local good nature make Bali a very attractive destination for holidaymakers from all over the world. In addition to the sea and mesmerizing natural beauties, the paradise island also has many truly unusual and interesting traditions.

Bali is sometimes called the land of holidays. On the island, 230 days a year are officially considered holidays. Here, almost every day, a kind of carnivals, ceremonies and processions are held.

One of the most unusual island traditions is the Day of Silence. During the unique ritual, the Balinese do not leave their homes for a whole day and even after dark they do not turn on the lights. The whole island is immersed in a wondrous and enchanting silence. So the locals, according to an old custom, try to deceive the demons, as if everyone had left their homes and there was no one to look for here. People spend this time meditating with their families. Not a single institution works, not even airports.

Since most Balinese are Hindus, offerings to spirits and saints are an integral part of their lives. From early childhood, local girls are taught to weave special baskets, which are filled with various gifts to appease otherworldly forces. Baskets come in different sizes, from small to huge.

The inhabitants of Bali, like most of the peoples of Indonesia, honor and sacredly believe in the existence of black and white magic. On the island, such a profession as sorcerers is widespread. It is clear that dark magicians specialize in the induction of corruption and other infliction of spiritual harm. They are usually approached to get even with enemies or offenders. White sorcerers act as healers, can read the stars and predict the future.

In Hindu culture, death, just like birth, is an important part of ritual life. Death is the source of some of the island's most dramatic and exciting holidays. When parting with the deceased, it is not accepted to cry, since it is believed that they have suffered on earth and went to a better world. To free the soul of the deceased, it is customary to cremate him. In this case, the ritual is carried out on strictly agreed days, which are determined by the elders.

Bali's traditions and culture are unusual and unique. Thanks to this, rest in these places fills anyone with positive energy and gives a lot of unforgettable impressions. It is not for nothing that the paradise island is also called "an open-air temple".
