Pink smooth surface with the scent of violets. All about Uzunlarskoe lake in Crimea

Pink smooth surface with the scent of violets. All about Uzunlarskoe lake in Crimea Among the most popular natural attractions of Crimea, locations lost among the endless Crimean steppes have held the leading positions for several years. One of them is Uzunlar Lake. This is a small body of water located in the vicinity of Kerch.

Uzunlar can hardly be called a lake. Indeed, according to all classifications of science, it looks more like an estuary, once detached from the sea and separated from it by a small land edge. Uzunlarskoe lake is closed from the sea by a spit of sand and shells, which has been formed here since time immemorial.

The origin of the Uzunlar toponym is explained by the unusual configuration of the lake. From the Crimean Tatar "uzun" is translated as "long". It is this elongated shape that the reservoir has. Its length is about 10 km, and its width varies from 1.5 to 5.5 km. The depth is shallow. The maximum mark is only 1.2 m. On average, the bottom deepens only 60 cm from the water surface. This figure becomes even less during the summer heat. At the same time, underground sources of fresh water protect the lake from complete drying out.

Many people compare the shores of Lake Uzunlar, dotted with tiny bays, with Norwegian fjords. But, be that as it may, Uzunlar is located in one of the most picturesque places of the peninsula - the Cimmerian steppe. In the spring it is covered with emerald greenery and flowering herbs, and in the summer it revives the lifeless plains scorched by the southern sun.

But the most important feature of the reservoir lies in its waters. In the lake, a special algae Dunaliella saltwater grows, which, under the influence of sunlight, begins to produce a substance that stains the water in a rich pink or lilac color. In addition to its unusual shade, the algae has a special aroma reminiscent of blooming violets.

This place acquires the greatest splendor in the spring or early summer, in the rays of the rising sun, when a white haze of fog swirls over the calm pink surface of the water, from which the soft tops of the hills appear.

Lovers of exclusive photographs come here. But Uzunlar is rich not only in beauty. The high concentration of salts, which is 10 times higher than that in seawater, allows the use of water, mud and silt of the lake for the treatment and prevention of diseases of the cardiovascular, bone, genitourinary systems. Also, swimming in the lake has a rejuvenating and restorative effect.

You can get here from the village of Maryevka on foot or by private car. But it should be borne in mind that in the vicinity of the lake there is a training ground where exercises are often held. Local residents are warned about this through the media, so the day before it is better to make sure that visiting the location will be safe.
