Travel across the central Crimea. Interesting places that not everyone knows about. Part 2 One of the unique monuments of the central part of the Crimean peninsula is the Funa fortress. You can find it if you drive along the highway towards the South Coast (Alushta direction) and turn towards Luchisty after the Angarsk pass. The object is located among the picturesque foothills and in the old days served as an outpost for the defense of the merchant, passing from the steppes to the coast.

Fragments of the fortress wall and an ancient temple consecrated in the name of Theodore Stratilates have survived to our time. Experts say that this object has not yet been fully explored and, perhaps, it is the tourists who have visited this place that will have to reveal its secrets.

Another little-known historical monument is located on the outskirts of Bakhchisarai, near Staroselya (Old Town). It is a complex of palace buildings dating back to the 15th century. On the territory there is a mausoleum with the ashes of eighteen members of the ruling Giray dynasty. Also here you can see the remains of a Muslim temple and the only university on the peninsula of the Khan period. Fragments of ancient baths are located nearby.

In addition to the monuments of the 15th century, there is a landmark dating back to a later period. This is the grave of the famous Crimean Tatar writer Ismail Gasprinsky.

Fans of astronomy should definitely visit the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory, which is also located in the Bakhchisarai region. The institution was founded after the Victory in the Second World War. The main part of the buildings is located on a hill reaching 600 m above sea level.

Organized excursions are organized around the complex. Here you can not only look into one of 17 telescopes, but also stroll among the spreading trees and sun-drenched quiet, fragrant lawns.

You can get here by following the "Tavrida" in the direction of Simferopol-Bakhchisarai and turning at the sign to Novopavlovka, and then to the village of Nauchny. From there you need to get to the edge of the pine forest. At the entrance to the complex, there is a barrier, from which you need to walk on foot towards the white domed buildings.
