Traveling around Lake Baikal, you can pay attention to the village of Staraya Angasolka. This modest, at first glance, village of several houses turns into a real tourist oasis in the summer. Convenient location next to the Circum-Baikal Railway (near the Dark Pad station) makes this place accessible to tourists coming here from all parts of Russia and abroad.Local residents nicknamed the Circum-Baikal railway "the golden buckle of Russia." The thing is that a huge amount of state funds were spent on the construction of the highway, with the structures adjacent to it. However, the surroundings of the Circum-Baikal Railway are famous not only for this.
In Staraya Angasolka there is an interesting hiking trail, which has the same name as the local station. The Dark Pad passes through a dense forest with springs, giant boulders and a picturesque cliff "Bird's Bazaar", where seagulls live.
Another attraction of the village is the Museum of Arts, where the originals of paintings by N. Roerich and other masters of the Renaissance are presented.
In the winter months, a children's mountaineering camp begins in Staraya Angasolka.
Another recommended location on Lake Baikal is the Shapka Monomakh Mountain. The peak received such an unusual name because of its bizarre shape. The mountain is located 77 km from Slyudyanka, described in the previous review. There is a tourist base nearby.
The summit reaches a height of 700 meters, and the ascent to it does not take much time and effort. But from here an amazing panorama of the Warm Lakes, fed by thermal springs, as well as the Snow River and the Khamar-Daban ridge opens up. Rest here is available at any time of the year and is considered one of the best and most comfortable on Lake Baikal.
Speaking of the hot springs of Lake Baikal, here you can find about 10 resorts that offer you not only to spend your holidays among the stunning, untouched nature, but also to improve your health. Comfortable places for living are usually built next to healing springs - hotels, sanatoriums, tourist centers. The most popular resorts are Khakusy, Goryachinsk, Arshan, Nilova Pustyn. The springs in these settlements differ in temperature and water composition.
