What a traveler needs to know about Oktoberfest

What a traveler needs to know about Oktoberfest Munich Oktoberfest is included in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest folklore festival. More than 6 million tourists from all over the world come to the festivities, which last for 16-18 days, every year.

The history of Oktoberfest dates back to the nationwide celebration of the wedding of the future King Louis I in the 19th century. In addition to a large number of national food, colorful parades, dances, funny attractions and fairs are organized for visitors. But the main attribute of the festival is real German beer, which is produced according to a special recipe exclusively by Munich enterprises and only for the holiday.

Oktoberfest is held annually from September 16 to October 4. Sometimes the date and duration of the celebration may vary slightly. The main celebrations are held near the center of Munich - on the spacious Teresa meadow. The glade got its name in honor of the very bride whom Louis I took as his wife. The opening of the festival is marked by a parade held by the owners of the beer tents. The head of the festive column is the Mayor of Munich.

Oktoberfest was first held in 1810, during a royal wedding procession. Festivities on the occasion of the significant event lasted 5 days. All this time, the locals were also feasting and having fun. The large-scale action was accompanied by parades, horse races and music. The townspeople liked such festivities so much that they decided to hold the event annually. In 1819, the holiday was made a state holiday and the city authorities began to organize it.

The customs of the festival took shape over two centuries. National costumes were even created for the holiday. Women's dirndl outfits consist of long ankle-length dresses and aprons, while men's outfits consist of plaid shirts, leather socks with bows and hats with feathers. The cost of such suits can go up to 200 euros. It is not necessary to wear national costumes for Oktoberfest, it is just that in this case it will not be possible to take part in the parade procession.

Even those who do not like beer will be able to find something to occupy themselves with at the festival. A large number of interesting attractions are organized on the basis of Oktoberfest. Traditional music and Bavarian dances are played everywhere. At the celebration, you can see the performance of a puppet theater or take part in exciting contests.
