The Palace bridge is crossing the river, got its name because near the Winter Palace and the Palace embankment. With the coming to power of the Bolsheviks, the bridge received the name Republican. In 1944 the bridge was returned to its historic name. The Palace bridge is floating and connects the city center with Vasilievsky island. The length of the bridge is 250 meters and the width is 27.7 meters. The bridge has five spans. This drawbridge is the honorary symbol and hallmark of the city.
