This city has a lot of amazing sights that tourists completely undeservedly bypass their attention.
One of these unknown, but, nevertheless, stunning locations with its beauty is the Botanical Garden of Peter the Great. This is one of the oldest objects of this kind in all of Russia. It is a vast territory of the Crow Island, where in 1713 the emperor ordered the establishment of the Pharmaceutical Garden for the cultivation of medicinal crops. The island was also named Aptekarsky, and the lands here grew so much that they gradually turned into a large park.
Today Botsat of Peter the Great belongs to the Botanical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and is protected by the state.
The territory is divided into two parts - an arboretum and a greenhouse. The first includes various tree species - linden, maple, elm, larch, birch, etc. Here, in early spring, amazing snowdrops and crocuses bloom. And in the last spring month - cherry blossoms and magnolias. In the summertime, you can see exotic orchids of the northern latitudes, which are popularly called the "Lady's Slipper". This plant is included in the Red Book.
In the greenhouse part of the Botanical Garden, you can see the unique plants of subtropical and tropical climates, which make up a collection that ranks fifth among the largest on the planet. Here you can see azaleas, camellias, rhododendrons, palms, cork trees.
It is especially pleasant to walk around the Petrovsky Botanical Garden in the autumn-winter period, when St. Petersburg is wrapped in gray colors.
Here you can walk alone (in the arboretum) or with a guide (in the greenhouses). Three types of travel have been developed for guests, providing an acquaintance with tropical, subtropical and aquatic nature. The last route is only for the warm season.
Of particular interest will be a visit to the Botanical Garden during the period of the festivals. So, every February there is a holiday "Thaw of the Senses", during which evening walks through the blooming greenhouses are organized. And at the beginning of spring there is an exhibition of tulips. The Maple Festival is definitely worth a visit in autumn.
If it is not yet possible to go to this place, webcams in St. Petersburg will allow you to get acquainted with both well-known and less popular corners of it.
