Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the center of the largest island in the Canary archipelago. The name of the city is translated as "Holy Cross". And this is no coincidence.
In 1495, the conquistadors came to the coast of Añazo, led by Alonso Fernández de Lugo, who placed their symbol, the silver Holy Cross, on new lands. This artifact is still kept within the walls of one of the temples of the capital.
The history of Santa Cruz de Tenerife began with the founding of a tiny fishing village, which later became the largest port. This was facilitated by the geographical location. The fact is that the city is surrounded by the harbor of La Laguna.

Already by the 17th century, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, whose webcams can be viewed in real time, became the main city on the island, and later the administrative center of the Canary Islands.

It is noteworthy that since the first half of the last century, the parliament of the Canary archipelago has changed its place of work every four years and moves to Las Palmas.
After the Spanish landed on the island, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, whose webcams can be found on this site, received a new stage in its development. Trade routes were laid through the settlement, which led to a rapid growth of the economy and the number of inhabitants. However, along with positive changes, negative sides also appeared. Conquerors from distant shores became interested in these lands, which led to a large number of sieges of the Canary Islands, including Tenerife. Today, three lion heads can be seen on the island's coat of arms, which symbolize victories in the three largest battles.

Rich in events, the long history of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is reflected in its architectural appearance

For example, a large number of ancient temples have survived to this day in the city. One of them is the Church of the Immaculate Conception, which until 1638 was named after the Holy Cross. It is here that the symbol of the conquistadors is kept, which they brought to the shores of the New World in the distant 15th century.
The Masson Temple has a stunning composition, the central entrance of which is decorated with massive columns and sculptures.
Another significant religious building is the Church of St. Francis of Assisi. It was built by Catholics and today is located next to the Museum of Fine Arts.

If it is not yet possible to go to the Canary Islands, webcams in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will help compensate for the lack of travel.
