This small Karelian town is located on the shores of Lake Ladoga, which is why there are more than enough natural attractions here.
The surroundings of the city are considered to be some kind of gateway to the world of crystal clear lakes, high cliffs and endless forests. Travelers often stop here when they are on their way to Valaam Island or Sortavala. One of the most striking natural objects can be called Huuhkanmäki or Mount Owl. Now it is a military-historical and geological museum. It is a bunker cut into the rock with two entrances. The beauty and scale of this object are simply mesmerizing. It covers an area of over 750 sq. m. During the Great Patriotic War, there was a natural grotto here, adapted for the command and staff bunker of the Finnish army. Therefore, tourists can get acquainted with the history of this headquarters, as well as learn more about the wars of Russia and Finland. In addition, the complex allows you to immerse yourself in the past of the Lahdenpokh region and see the geological collection of minerals from Karelia.
Taking into account the relief and picturesque views of Lahdenpokhya, whose webcams are available online on the website, the creators of the museum have developed an ecological route.
Climbing it, you can see themed sculptures, military equipment, a sports camp and a platform for extreme entertainment. In addition, observation platforms are installed along the trail, from where a panorama of the nature of Karelia opens.
The most significant place can be called the Ladoga Skerries Park. Such landscapes are simply impossible to see anywhere. This natural area consists of hundreds of rocky islands that stretch for 100 km. Tourists come here throughout the year to admire the unusual nature. It is better to visit the skerries in summer, but in winter the lakes and waterfalls freeze, reminiscent of the famous Norwegian fjords. This national park was formed in 2017. Given its length, it will not be possible to fully explore it in one day. Although this is not really necessary. It is better to visit and enjoy a small part of the Ladoga Skerries: take a leisurely walk through the forests, pick berries and mushrooms and just go fishing. The pleasure and impressions from visiting this corner of Lahdenpokhya will remain for a long time.
Live webcams allow you to walk around the beautiful Karelian region.
