Lomonosov, whose webcams can be viewed on this site, is an amazing city that has preserved unique monuments of history, culture and architecture
This city is located a 10-minute drive from Peterhof, a museum city in the suburbs of St. Petersburg. It stretches along the coast of the Gulf of Finland, and its history begins at the beginning of the 18th century.
Until the middle of the last century, the city was called Oranienbaum. It is here that the famous palace and park complex is located, which has retained the historical name of the city.
The main and oldest building on the territory of the Oranienbaum Museum-Reserve is Menshikov's Grand Palace. It has light facades and a symmetrical layout. A beautiful staircase with a semicircular terrace leads to its main entrance. And two galleries, symmetrically located to each other, are attached to the main building. One of them goes to the Japanese pavilion. The second - to the Church.
The final appearance of the interiors of the palace was acquired only in the 19th century, when it passed into the possession of Princess Elena Romanova. Most of the premises have elements of the rococo style.
The building was erected from 1710 to 1727 at the expense of Prince Menshikov, to whom Peter the Great granted these lands as his best friend. Later, next to the Menshikov Palace, a huge garden appeared, which to this day amazes the beholder with its magnificence.
The Menshikov Palace in Lomonosov, whose webcams can be viewed in real time, together with the adjacent park, is a unique architectural monument of the times of Peter I
Thanks to the efforts of historians and restorers, the building was preserved in its original form.
Oranienbaum Park is worth a separate mention. It is a unique monument of landscape gardening art. The garden area is divided into two parts. The upper one is called a park, and the lower one is called a garden. Both parts were formed in different historical periods. The upper part of the landscape gardening ensemble is often called Northern Switzerland. The park is arranged in a landscape style, with asymmetric alleys leading to the Karasta River. It divides the territory into two more parts - Own dacha and Petrovsky park.
The lower garden was founded at the beginning of the 18th century. It has a regular layout with symmetrically arranged sculptures, flower beds, paths and small architectural forms.
If you still can't go to the Leningrad Region, Lomonosov's webcams will help fill the gap in travel.
