Lomonosov webcams online - suburb of St. Petersburg
Lomonosov is located in the suburbs of St. Petersburg and is able to conquer the heart of a traveler with an abundance of its attractions. These are luxurious palaces, picturesque parks, various museums and unique temples. Each of these objects keeps pieces of the history and culture of Russia, starting from the earliest times. If so far there is no way to travel in this direction, Lomonosov's webcams, which you can watch online on this page, will decorate your leisure time with an exciting interactive walk.
You can learn the history of this extraordinary city in the Central Museum. The local expositions will tell about the development of Lomonosov, from a Swedish village to a developed Russian settlement. The collections of the institution are dedicated to the history of Oranienbaum, the period of the Great Patriotic War. Two mummies dating back to the 18th century, which were transferred to the museum from the local cemetery, can make a special impression. The building of the museum itself is an architectural monument located in the heart of the old city.
The main attraction of Lomonosov is the Oranienbaum Museum-Reserve
It is a complex of palace buildings surrounded by a magnificent garden, stunning in its scale and beauty.
The complex was founded at the beginning of the 18th century, when Tsar Peter I presented these territories to his best friend Alexander Menshikov. In just a few years, the prince built a stunning estate here, which was not inferior in its scope to the famous Peterhof. In the center is the Baroque Grand Palace. Around it there is an amazing park and garden ensemble, which overlooks the Gulf of Finland.
After the death of Peter the Great, the prince lost his possessions and since 1737 a naval military hospital was located here. Later, these lands were owned by a variety of owners, and each of them brought its own changes to the appearance of Oranienbaum.
After the Revolution, the buildings, together with the adjoining territory, were nationalized. Part of the land was transferred to the Forestry College.
During the Great Patriotic War, the buildings miraculously withstood the onslaught of the enemy. But after the Victory, the complex could not be used for a long time and the buildings were noticeably dilapidated. A major restoration of Oranienbaum was carried out in the 90s of the last century, after which it was given the status of a museum and a national treasure.
To this day, it has been possible to preserve the Menshikov Palace in its original form, which was equipped to the highest standards that could be imagined at that time. The building was erected on the high coast of the Gulf of Finland, so that all ships entering the harbor could see the palace and admire its beauty.
The opposite of Menshikov's pompous palace is the palace of Peter III, the spouse of Catherine the Great. This is a modest two-storey building that is practically devoid of external decor. At the same time, the interiors of the palace are also richly decorated. The building became the final one in the complex of the amusing fortress Petershtadt, which was built for the entertainment of the emperor. Today, the building houses a rich exposition, including an exhibition of examples of oriental art.
The Chinese Palace, built at the behest of Catherine II, has a unique lightness and grace. The building is made in the tradition of the Rococo style, and the interior rooms became a reflection of the fashionable passion for oriental art at that time. The palace has 17 rooms, each of which has its own unique design. Separate from the palace is the building of the Chinese cuisine, made in the same style and color scheme as the main building.
Above the main Lomonosov Avenue rises an amazing ancient temple in the name of the Archangel Michael
Its white walls and black domes give the appearance of majesty and severity. The building was made in the neo-Russian style in 1913. It replaced the dilapidated wooden church that had been here before this time. The temple was erected with charitable donations in memory of Prince Mikhail. The lighting was timed to coincide with the 300th anniversary of the House of Romanov.
After the Revolution, a time of troubles came for the coming of the church. In 1931, the abbot was shot, and a year later the facility itself was closed. A food warehouse was placed there. This continued until 1988, when a large number of religious buildings were returned to the Orthodox community in honor of the 1000th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus. The Cathedral of the Archangel Michael became one of them. The executed abbot Ioann Razumikhin was ranked among the new martyrs. Today the temple complex is the largest in Lomonosov.
This is not a complete list of the city's attractions, many of which can be seen if you watch Lomonosov's webcams online.
