It is this location and carefully thought out ingenious layout that has made the Sengan Garden the most visited attraction in all of Kagoshima.

The territory of the garden covers an area of ​​approximately 5 hectares. Here you can see amazing ponds and streams, bamboo groves, small architectural forms, as well as a hiking trail leading to the mountains. The highest point in the garden can be reached in 1 hour. All this makes the ensemble so attractive that many do not want to leave these places.

The center of the garden and park composition is a house built in several architectural styles that have features of Japan, China, and Europe. Nicholas II and Edward VIII came here at different times. The interiors are furnished in the best traditions of 19th century Japanese interior design.

It is recommended to allocate a whole day for a trip to the garden, because it is unlikely that you will be able to escape from the captivity of fragrant flowers and unimaginable views earlier. Moreover, the location has not only breathtaking panoramas and well-groomed alleys, but also catering establishments offering local cuisine.

There are two restaurants in the garden where you can taste freshly caught fish and a special kind of pork. For dessert, you can order the local jyambo-mochi delicacy, which is fried puffed rice in sweet soy glaze. At the same time, the meal will be accompanied by the contemplation of the amazing views of the volcano.

Sangan borders the coast near the town of Kagoshima (30 minutes drive from the center). You can get here both by your own car and by public transport or a sightseeing bus. You can fly to Kagoshima itself from Tokyo. You can get to the city center from the airport in about an hour.

Trains also run to Kagoshima from Tokyo. However, such a journey will take about 6-7 hours, including transfers.

Near the Sengan Garden, you can visit the unique Shoko Shuseikan Museum, built in the 19th century and representing the oldest building in Japan. Together with the Sengan Garden, the Museum has been included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
