A year after the fire: Notre Dame Cathedral partially open to visitors

A year after the fire: Notre Dame Cathedral partially open to visitors The fire did not manage to reach the crypt near Notre Dame Cathedral, but a lot of damage caused the fallout of lead dust. Throughout the year, several cleaning teams were engaged in the fact that they swept away toxic garbage. Lead dust could seep even into the smallest crevices. Another dangerous problem for ancient premises was the spread of mold and microorganisms. Biological processes began as a result of the forced shutdown of the ventilation system.
The famous attraction became available to visit a couple of weeks ago. The guests are presented with a completely new exhibition, which contains all the information about the history of the cathedral. The key element of the exhibition was the work of Victor Hugo. It was he who invented the image of the Hunchback in the first novel in French " Notre Dame Deba de Paris." No less attention is paid to the contribution of architect Eugene Violet de Duc, who designed the world-famous Gothic spire.
The exhibition features films, sketches and many other materials related to Hugo's characters. For the first time in the history of the cathedral will be presented unique archival photos showing the construction of the iconic spire. The exhibition unfolds near the most impressive sights of the crypt. The ancient ruins of the walls and the thermal baths found during archaeological excavations on the Ile de la Sita are amazing for their age.
Official statements show that there is no historical connection between the cathedral and the crypt. The burials are located right under the Paris square in front of the monumental church, open to tourists in June this year. According to the promises of the organizers, the exhibition will operate until 2022.
Notre Dame Cathedral itself remains closed. Statements by French President Emmanuel Macron say only one thing: the complete restoration of the iconic cultural, religious and historical monument will not be completed until 2024 at the earliest. The opening of the cathedral is planned to coincide with the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
