Location: The city is located at an altitude of 390 m above sea level, on both banks of the Yantra River, at the northern foot of the Central part of the mountainous Balkan chain. The city is located 220 km north-east of Sofia, 274 km south-west of Varna, 150 km north-east of Plovdiv and 46 km south-west of Veliko Tarnovo. Gabrovo is located in close proximity to the geographical center of Bulgaria - Uzana mountain resort. Gabrovo is the regional center of the country.
History: The city of Gabrovo emerged in the Middle Ages as a strategic village, due to its location - in proximity to the passes of the mountain Balkan chain. In the 12th century, the former capital of the Bulgarian state, Veliko Tarnovo, influenced Gabrovo and trade and crafts began to rapidly develop in the city (Kuznetsk business, arms production) and others. Rapid economic development and national revival contributed to the opening of the first Bulgarian school in 1835, named after it founder Vasil Aprilov. During this period, beautiful houses of the era of the Bulgarian National Renaissance, churches, bridges, drinking fountains, a clock tower (1835) were built. As well as the unique architectural and ethnographic complex "Etara". The complex represents the true life of the craft town of the National Renaissance.
Open Air Museum - "Etara" Located 8 km from Gabrovo and is one of the most interesting places to visit. Since ancient times, the city is famous for its care and wit of its inhabitants. The works of creators from 153 countries are exhibited in 10 rooms on an area of 8,000 square meters. The house popularizes humor and satire from all over Bulgaria.

The Bayov Bridge is a masterpiece of Bulgarian architecture. The bridge was declared a cultural monument and was completely restored in 1986 - now it is a pedestrian zone. The Igoto Bridge (Slave Bridge) is represented by four statues. One of the statues is a statue of the founder of the city - Racho Kovachev. Other statues: a lion, a typical Bulgarian and a typical male Bulgarian. Other impressive bridges are the four-lion bridge in front of the theater, the craft bridge, the artists bridge - with four statues (a muse of music, an actor with a theater mask and two grinders dancing a traditional dance).
Nowadays, the city has three professional theaters - Drama Theater. Racho Stoyanova, Puppet Theater and Experimental Satire and Variety Theater.
Every year in August, the Balkan Youth Festival is held in Gabrovo, and at the end of September - Chamber Music Days.
Hradiste is home to a planetarium and zoo.
Neighborhood: Gradiste - the medieval fortress wall is 3 km from the town of Gabrovo. From here you can enjoy panoramic city views. In IV - V, the Gradiste fortress was a huge structure for protecting Shipka Pass. Now this area is a favorite place for residents of the city for picnics.
