Gabrovo in Bulgaria is like Odessa in the former USSR. This city is considered the official humorous capital of the country, and its inhabitants have long been registered in countless Bulgarian jokes. Previously, the city was also the center of the textile industry. But after the fall of the communist regime, industry everywhere in Bulgaria “ordered to live long”, and Gabrovo acquired a new status - a quiet city with very green streets, a center of traditions and ethnic patriarchy.
Attractions Gabrovo
The sights of Gabrovo are mainly connected with two things - ethnography and humor. There was a settlement on this place for a long time, but the city of Gabrovo has been considered only since the 19th century. During the war for the liberation of Bulgaria, Gabrovo was the base for Shipka's defenders. It erected several monuments to Russian soldiers and officers who died here from wounds and illnesses. An interesting object is the ethnographic complex Etar. This is a kind of open-air museum, displaying different sides of traditional Bulgarian life.
The local historical museum is very rich. It is noteworthy that it originated as a school, and the founder was the director of a local educational institution. The museum is located in a historic building in the Baroque style. Gradiste Park combines the advantages of an ordinary leisure park with a playground and archaeological sites. The remains of ancient defensive structures discovered by archaeologists are exhibited there. There are also operating monasteries in the vicinity.
