Online webcam with a panorama of the Lozenetsky district of Sofia. The old name of the Losenets quarter is Korubalgar, which means vine in the forest. Later the name of the quarter begins to be pronounced - Kurubaglar , which means dry vine. The first name more accurately defines the name of the quarter, namely the rich vegetation and lush forests that surrounded Sofia.
Today, this part is already in the heart of Sofia. In its modern size, the quarter in the south reaches the foot of Mount Vitoshi, and in the west is bordered by the largest Sofia Park - South Park . The so-called Star or Dolen Losenets is directly bordered by the National Palace of Culture and the Hilton Hotel and is an interesting combination of old town and modern construction.
In the losenets district, the "Old Wall" will be called. It stood here for many centuries and witnessed all the changes that have come in the life of the city. Immediately after liberation, Sofia had the appearance of a provincial Turkish town. Crossing the Samokov Bridge under which the Perlovskaya River flows, you find yourself outside the city in the lands of Dolen Lodenetz.
On the site of the modern boulevard Hristo Smirnensky was a Turkish cemetery. Near it were the graves of Russian soldiers who died in 1878. There, as then, stood the Old Wall. Some now call it the Roman Wall. The Old Wall is a valuable ancient monument to Bulgarian history, preserved over the centuries.
Today, the Lozenets quarter is an interesting combination of old and new construction.
