In 2018, Khabarovsk celebrated its 160th anniversary. This is the official date - in 1858 the Governor-General of Eastern Siberia Nikolai Muravyov-Amursky ordered the founding of the city. But long before that, 350 years ago, the Russian pioneer Erofei Khabarov with a detachment went to the Amur tributary and made a detailed drawing of the surroundings, while the Cossack rightly noted that the local land is richer than the northern Lena.
But until the very foundation of the city, this territory was considered neutral, between China and Russia. In 1858, negotiations were held in the Chinese city of Aigun, which were led by Governor-General Nikolai Muravyov from the Russian side. As a result, the entire left bank of the Amur went to Russia. Here a military post was created, which was named Khabarovka in honor of the pioneer. Over the years, the settlement became a city. A monument to Erofei Khabarov now stands on an honorary pedestal at the railway station.
