But this settlement has a diverse and long history, its own charm and wonderful nature.
The lands on which the city is located today have attracted a variety of peoples since ancient times. This is due to the favorable strategic location between the three full-flowing rivers Shudek, Bui and Yanaulka.
In the course of archaeological research in the vicinity of the city, several ancient settlements were found. And the first people inhabited these places more than 2600 years ago. Artifacts such as household items, weapons, animal bones were found on the excavation site.
According to historians, already in the first half of the 18th century, several farmsteads were located on the territory of present-day Yanaul. The local population was engaged in logging, agriculture, animal husbandry, beekeeping. After all, the rich nature of these lands contributed to the development of such crafts in various eras.
The first documentary mention of Yanaul dates back to the 1750s.
It was about the Yanaevs, which is translated from the Bashkir language as “New Village”. In the next few decades, Yanaul was mentioned with just such a distorted name.
Several key events can be noted in the annals of the city. This includes participation in the peasant uprising of Pugachev, and the fight against the Napoleonic army, and obtaining the status of the center of the volost.
By the end of the 19th century, 460 people lived on the territory of Yanaul. There were forestry enterprises, a water mill and a school. And on the eve of the October Revolution, a railway station was opened in Yanaul, which was located on a new highway connecting Kazan and Yekaterinburg.
In 1938, Yanaul became a workers' settlement by merging with Ivanaevo. And during the Second World War, almost 11 thousand local residents went to the front. It is noteworthy that even the war did not force the construction of new facilities to stop. They were a brick factory, a military hospital, an airfield and a summer school.
A real breakthrough in the development of the town was the discovery of oil deposits. It happened in 1960. And after 5 years, the village becomes the center of the oil industry in the north of the Republic.
In June 1991, Yanaul finally received the status of a city. Today, many industrial enterprises of various industries operate here.
