Webcams Sortavaly online - Republic of Karelia

Sortavala webcams, which you can watch online on this page, will immerse you in the atmosphere of cordiality and comfort of this small but colorful town, which will find something to please and surprise its guests.
Sortavala, located in the Republic of Karelia, invariably attracts tourists from all over the country and abroad. The reason for this is the amazing nature with dense coniferous forests, fragrant parks, picturesque lakes, raging rivers and waterfalls. In addition to miraculous sights, Sortavala is also rich in cultural, architectural, historical monuments, which are definitely worth getting to know everyone who visits this region.
One of the famous natural attractions of Sortavala is the Läppäjärvi Bay, which is part of the lake of the same name and an even larger water area of the Ladoga reservoir. The city is located around Läppryjärvi.
The local nature promises a lot of enthusiastic emotions for all lovers of northern landscapes. Moreover, each season is beautiful here in its own way. There are two bridges thrown across the lake - a railway and an automobile one with the possibility of walking.
Here you can also take an unforgettable boat trip along the bay to the famous Valaam Island on Lake Ladoga.
On one of the banks of Läppryäjärvi, there is a “stone of desires”, touching which, you can help your most cherished dream come true.
Among the architectural landmarks of Sortavala, it is worth noting the building of the Central Bank. It was built in the first half of the 20th century. At that time, the central banking institution of Finland was located here. The Bank of Russia has appeared here already in our century.
The structure, with arched windows and doors, was built of dark gray slabs. The front facade is finished with Serdobolsk granite, which is mined in the Ladoga region. The interiors of the institution are also impressive. The floor in the premises is paved with large and small mosaics. Entrances and wall panels are made of mahogany.

You can get acquainted with the history and modern realities of the region not only if you watch the webcams of Sortavala online, but also by visiting the Museum of Northern Ladoga

Within the walls of the institution, artifacts related to the history, culture and nature of this region are exhibited. The expositions are located in an old wooden building. Although the collections are small, their variety will appeal to both adults and children.
The historical part of the exhibition includes samples of weapons and military uniforms. There is also an old bell, which was donated to the city by the Swedish monarch in the 17th century. Having studied the collection, you can learn the history of the development of Karelia, as well as how and how the representatives of the local population lived.
The viewer will also be captivated by the exhibition of natural exhibits. Among them are samples of minerals that lie deep in the earth on the territory of the region (the collection has over 400 elements). There is also a unique breed of sortavalite, which can be found only in the vicinity of Sortavala.
The arts section is dedicated to the work of Karelian artists. The exhibition presents, in particular, the works of Georgy Stronk - graphic artist and painter, Honored Art Worker of the Karelo-Finnish SSR. The exhibition halls also display temporary collections of works by local brush masters, photographers and artisans.
The main religious building of the city is the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. The temple became one of the first stone structures in Sortavala. At the beginning of the 20th century, the church was a cathedral. After the incorporation of these territories into the USSR, the temple was closed. A stable was set up in the skillfully decorated premises. It is noteworthy that the church was reconstructed and returned to believers one of the first in the country. The re-consecration of St. Nicholas Church took place during the years of the Great Patriotic War.
The building has features of baroque and classical temple architecture. The facades are covered with a layer of snow-white paint, and the roof, dome and tent above the bell tower have a bright blue hue, which is stunningly combined with golden poppies that resemble stars against the background of the night sky.
The temple acquired its present appearance after several reconstructions. Skillfully inlaid iconostases are installed inside the building. The church accommodates 270 parishioners.
An unforgettable walk in the fresh air under the shade of age-old trees promises the Vakkosalmi Park. The site looks more like a large forest than an artificial plantation. It is here that you have the opportunity to admire the real beauties of the Karelian nature.
Coniferous and deciduous trees grow on the territory of the park, founded in 1874. And the location on the top of the hill allows you to see a vast panorama of the surroundings. A concrete staircase leads to the top of the natural observation deck, and Vakkosalmi and Ayranne lakes come close to the foot of the hill on both sides.
Walking around this place, you can take photographs as a souvenir of the trip.

But if there is no way to go to Karelia yet, Sortavala webcams, which can be watched online in real time, will fill the travel deficit.
