In Soviet times, the glory of Segezha thundered throughout the USSR and beyond. The products of the Pulp and Paper Mill were in great demand, the plant was constantly growing and increasing production.
Following the city-forming enterprise, Segezha itself grew and flourished: high-rise buildings, schools and sports complexes, small enterprises in the food industry and cultural leisure appeared. Modern infrastructure and decent salaries for those times attracted specialists from all over the Soviet Union to the city. The population grew rapidly and by the end of the 70s of the last century, the administrative center of the Segezhsky district became the second in the Karelian Republic in terms of the number of inhabitants.
The period of perestroika made its own adjustments: the plant significantly reduced the rate of production and the city also stopped developing. This is especially noticeable in the old part of the city, where pre-war buildings and two-story wooden barracks have been preserved. But the well-maintained Lindozera beach, also located in this part of Segezha, pleases with cleanliness and comfort. A volleyball court is equipped here, outdoor exercise equipment and a children's entertainment town are installed.
The relatively new part of Segezha has preserved the remains of the Soviet infrastructure. There is a reconstructed cinema, schools and the Museum of Local Lore.
Repair work is underway on the roads of the city, the park area has been ennobled, new playgrounds have been installed in the courtyards of residential buildings.
The pride of Segezha since the time of the great Soviet construction - the Palace of Culture and Sports has also been put in order and equipped with new sports equipment.
Grandiose changes in the appearance of the administrative center of the Segezha district began in the summer of 2022. This year has become significant thanks to the launched Segezha Group charity program for its restoration.
The improvement plan also included the reconstruction of water supply columns in the old part of the city. Now new wooden houses have been installed there for the comfort of residents, and an automated system will be installed by the end of the year.
