Segezha, whose webcams can be viewed online on this site, is a city, at first glance, inconspicuous from a tourist point of view.
Usually it is used as a transit point on the way to the famous Karelian sights. Nevertheless, there are significant places and objects here.
In the city itself, you can visit the temple and the museum center, there is a palace of culture, a cinema, a memorial complex, a museum. The latter contains various artifacts that tell about the history of these lands, the development of the city's industry, as well as numismatics, ethnography, and the culture of the indigenous population.
Many interesting natural attractions can be found in the vicinity of Segezha.
One of them is the Voitsky waterfall, fed by the Nizhny Vyg River, which is located near the village of Nadvoitsy. The location has been known since the 16th century. True, since those times, the padun has somewhat lost its power. The reason for this was the construction of a dam, which changed the level in reservoirs. Today, the height of the Voitsky Padun reaches a little over 4 meters. Nevertheless, the attraction and its surrounding landscape are worthy of attention and promise beautiful photographs.
By the way, Voitsky Padun is known not only for its picturesqueness. It was in these places that in the 18th century a local peasant from the same Nadvoits discovered deposits of copper ore. Subsequently, a mine was opened here, where raw materials were mined for the Olonets copper smelter. The mine became even more famous after gold inclusions were discovered in it. The mine at the Voitsky waterfall became the first place for the extraction of Russian gold.
Half a century later, the enterprise was stopped. However, during its existence, more than 70 kg of gold and 100 tons of ore were mined here. After the Belomorkanal was built, the area was under water. Today, a commemorative plaque reminds of the history of the mine.
It is worth mentioning the Segozero reservoir, which the locals simply called Segozero. Once upon a time, timber was rafted along its waters. Today, a trout farm operates in this area. It is noteworthy that in addition to trout, almost two dozen species of fish live in the natural conditions of the lake. These are bream, burbot, goby, roach, etc. That is why you can often see fishermen on the banks of the Segozero.
By the way, not only fans of fishing, but also ordinary citizens with children like to visit the Segozero reservoir. This place is a popular recreational area for "escape from the city".
If, for now, it is not possible to go to these places, Segezha webcams, which can be watched online in real time, will allow you to get to know them better.
