The settlement of Nadvoitsy is the largest urban settlement in the whole of Karelia and the second largest settlement in the Segezha region, which, in a strange way, did not reach the status of a city. It is located near the Belomor-Baltic Canal, on the Mainvolok Peninsula, in the northwestern part of Vygozero, near the site where the gateway No. 10 operates. Near this object, you can see spacious panoramas with artificially created waterfalls. But most of the territory is forbidden to photograph.
Webcams Nadvoits online, the first mention of this settlement dates back to the 17th century
But this is an older namesake of the modern Nadvoitsy, founded to serve the White Sea Canal already in the 20th century. The first settlement was called Nadvoitsky Pogost and belonged to the Solovetsky Monastery. The name of the settlement comes from the waterfall - Voitskiy padun, which, in turn, was named due to the fact that the "howl" of its jets was heard for many kilometers.
Unlike a hydraulic structure on an artificially created channel, on a natural waterfall located at the point where the Nizhny Vyg River enters Voitskoye Lake, filming is permitted. Once its height reached 4 m. But after the construction of the canal, this figure has significantly decreased.
In the 18th century, copper and gold were mined not far from Nadvoitsy. It is here that the mine is located, in which deposits of this precious metal were found for the first time in Russia.
During the First World War, the Murmansk railway, which is of strategic importance, was laid through the territory of Nadvoitsy. The highway connected Petrozavodsk and Murmansk, which made it possible to supply military cargo to Russia from the Entente countries.
After the construction of the railway, the northern regions began to actively develop and populate. The station "Nadvoitsy" made it possible to improve transport links with this settlement. Previously, it was possible to get here only along the pilgrims' road - the Sumy tract, which ran from Povenets to the Solovetsky Islands.
The new Nadvoitsy saw the first peak of their development during the Soviet colonization of these lands. In the 1920s, a timber industry enterprise with the village of "Red Colonist" was built near the northern outskirts of the settlement. A little later, a correctional camp appeared here, the prisoners of which built the famous White Sea Canal, connecting the White Sea and Lake Onega. A little later, near the dam near Nadvoitsy, a berth appeared for handling cargo passing along the new waterway.
In addition to the canal, the largest enterprise in Nadvoits is the NAZ aluminum smelter, built here in 1954. The choice of this place was due to the proximity of the Ondskaya HPP, which supplied the plant with electricity. After the collapse of the USSR, the enterprise passed into the ownership of the private company Russian Aluminum, which has repeatedly made attempts to close the production. After the intervention of the authorities, the managing organization bought out the hydroelectric power station on Onda and entered into a number of lucrative agreements with Rosenergoatom, thereby reducing the plant's electricity costs.
Since the beginning of the 2014 crisis, Nadvoitsy has been included in the list of monotowns with a difficult economic situation.
But after 2 years, the settlement received the status of a territory of advanced socio-economic development (TASED). This was facilitated by the attraction of investors and an increase in the number of jobs, as well as a plan for the development of an industrial park. Already by 2019, the Nadvoitsy plant TDM, which implemented the microshungite production project, also added to the list of TASED participants. Earlier this status was assigned to the Russian Radiator company. The opening of the largest data center in Europe is already planned in Nadvoitsy.
In addition to natural attractions and industrial achievements, Nadvoitsy is known for its respect for history. On the territory of the settlement there is a mass grave with a memorial where soldiers and officers of various troops who fought for the Karelian land during the Great Patriotic War are buried.
You can see many sights and monuments of this village if you watch Nadvoits webcams online.
