Religious objects of Tikhvin, whose webcams can be viewed online in real time, are an important part of the cultural and historical heritage of the city.
One of the oldest churches in Tikhvin is the Church of St. Righteous Job the Long-suffering. The building was erected in the middle of the XIX century. And, like many Russian places of worship, the temple had a rather difficult fate. In the second half of the 18th century, the building was badly damaged by fire. Later, a small wooden church was built here, which was rebuilt into a stone structure. It is noteworthy that this object is one of the few churches that have survived to this day, built according to the project of the talented architect Konstantin Ton.
The building that we see today impresses with its grandeur. It is decorated with a single onion dome, as well as white architraves and columns in the spirit of Byzantine architecture. A bell tower with a hipped roof is attached to the main building.
The original interiors of the church have not survived to this day. During the restoration, the interior was given a laconic look with restrained decoration. The temple is being restored. But the services don't stop there.
The main temple of the Assumption Monastery has similar domes. It was built in the 16th century by decree of Ivan the Terrible in place of a wooden counterpart. Today, the monastery complex includes the Assumption and Intercession Churches, the Tikhvin Church and the bell tower. The territory of the monastery is landscaped. And, despite the long downtime during Soviet rule, regular services are held here today.
The Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Savior also has a unique appearance. It began to be built of brick at the end of the 17th century. And finished almost 40 years later. The building in the best traditions of the Novgorod style was decorated with six towers with onion domes. Arched windows are complemented by modest stucco elements.
Unfortunately, during the years of Soviet rule, the temple was completely looted. And the bells were removed and melted down. Church utensils were also burned. The object began to be restored only in the 90s of the last century. Even today, some parts of the temple are closed. In the main hall today, as well as centuries ago, services are held.
