Barnaul, whose webcams are available online on this site, is one of the oldest cities in Siberia.
Its chronicle began in the 18th century after the formation of a silver smelter, next to which a small working settlement was built. Thanks to the rich deposits of this valuable metal, the settlement developed at a rapid pace. And today Barnaul is a big, beautiful city full of interesting sights.
Some of the remarkable objects of Barnaul, as before, are associated with mining. This is both an old factory and a unique Mountain Pharmacy. Many historical artifacts are kept in city museums. And, of course, there are many amazing examples of ancient architecture left on the streets.
One of the first streets on the territory of modern Barnaul was Petropavlovskaya. It owes its name to the Peter and Paul Cathedral, which stands in the place where it begins. Today this street is interesting for its old wooden houses that were built here centuries ago. At the beginning of the last century, the artery became the main one in the city. And in Soviet times, it was renamed in the face of the Republic. Nowadays, the street bears the name of the local inventor I. I. Polzunov. It passes through the historical heart of Barnaul, and its visit is included in many excursion programs.
It is on this street that the amazing museum "Mountain Pharmacy" is located. Once upon a time, it was an operating institution, where, since the 50s of the 18th century, medicines were produced for local workers working in Altai factories and mines.
Visiting this place today you can see a truly recreated house of a 19th century pharmacist, as well as various premises - a pharmacy store, laboratories with many antique items.
If you can’t go to Altai yet, the webcams of Barnaul, which you can watch online in real time, will allow you to enjoy a pleasant virtual walk.
