Zagrebobliged to reunite the two separate towns, Kaptol and Gradec, located in the valley of the river Sava, who now represent the historic core of Zagreb. Modern Zagreb is the cultural, sports and educational centre of the country, with a unique architecture which is a synthesis of Baroque, classicism, art Nouveau, Gothic and the middle ages. Ancient buildings and temples, as well as an unimaginable number of parks, museums, galleries, cozy restaurants and colorful markets attract tourists from around the world. The main construction of the Top Zagreb (Gradec) is the Church. Mark, erected in the Gothic tradition of Church architecture. Near the Church there is another prominent building – the presidential residence – "Banski-Dvori". Other popular attractions of Hradec worth noting is the Museum of Croatian sculptor and architect Ivan Meštrović, the state Historical Museum, Gallery of primitive art and history Museum located within the ancient walls of the monastery. In this part of Zagreb is a fragment of the once powerful fortifications. Up to now from this medieval fortress survived only observation tower and located a little East, city gate, which still is the old cannon, the volleys of which are posted on the city every afternoon. To the South of the gate stands the Church of SV. Catherine, built in the Baroque style, as well as the Central exhibition hall. Lower in Zagreb, the main attraction is the temple of the Holy. Stephen, built in the late XIX century. Recommended to visit are also the Archbishop's Palace, the Central square Josip Jelacic square, named after outstanding political and military figure, a beautiful old cemetery "Mirogoj", with its picturesque arcades, which are buried famous citizens of Zagreb. Do not forget to look at one of Europe's oldest University, as well as the Comedy Theatre. The upper and lower parts of Zagreb are connected by the shortest in the world, a funicular railway. The special charm of Zagreb also attach a tiny pedestrian streets, colorful café terraces, and numerous picturesque corners of nature, most spectacular of which is the masterpiece of landscape art – made in the English style Park complex Maksimir, zoo and Botanical garden. In addition to the Zagreb is also worth a visit and a suburban area where there are a unique source of medicinal oil, pump room with mineral water, a beautiful medieval castle and the many small Baroque churches.
