Webcams Watamu online - National Marine Park in Kenya

Watamu webcams, which are fashionable to watch online on this site, will allow you to stroll through the colorful and memorable coastal province, see its picturesque surroundings, turquoise ocean and white beaches in real time, regardless of location.

Watamu is suitable for anyone who loves to combine beach and outdoor activities, eco-tourism and amazing excursions to distinctive African villages.

Watamu is a very young city that was founded in the 70s of the last century as a small resort village. But the advantageous geographical position, natural wealth and beauty very quickly made this village a popular tourist destination. Today, the city, immersed in tropical thickets, amazes even experienced travelers with its chic hotels, authentic bungalows and other exoticism.

The main attraction of Watamu is the National Marine Park, which was founded in 1968 as a special protected area.

This is the first marine park in the country, which is known for its stunning landscapes, pristine beaches with crystal clear waters, under which the amazing wealth of underwater flora and fauna is hidden. Together with a similar nature reserve in Malindi, this park is included in the UNESCO list.
The main part of the flora in Watamu National Park is represented by coral reefs, the length of which reaches 300 meters, and on which 150 species of these unusual natural objects are located. On the coast, the main part of the flora is represented by mangrove forests, in which such varieties of exotic plants as Avicenia, Rhizophora and others grow.

Watamu National Marine Reserve is home to over 100 species of birds, 600 species of fish and 20 species of squid.

Here you can also see giant sea turtles, which are under the special protection of the state. To preserve the population of these animals, a state program was developed for the protection of egg clutches of various species of turtles. Accidentally caught reptiles must be reported to special authorities. Individuals attach a special chip to track its movement and condition, and are released back into their natural habitat.
In addition to the listed animals, the Watamu Marine Reserve includes such underwater inhabitants as octopuses, rays, whale sharks, and barracudas. The microcosm of the park is represented by crustaceans, molluscs, invertebrates.
You can get to the Watamu Marine National Reserve from Malindi or Mombasa. To do this, you can use taxis or regular buses.

Other interesting sights of Watamu include the ruins of Gedi.

This is one of the oldest cities in Kenya, which was founded in the 13th century and existed until the 17th century. Unfortunately, almost nothing is known about the history of this settlement. It is noteworthy that in the last century Gedi played the role of an important trade center. Here you could buy exclusive goods, ranging from household items to rare fabrics and weapons. Local merchants and manufacturers traded not only with cities within the country, but also with foreign countries - China, India, Spain.
According to researchers, on the territory where you can now see the picturesque ruins, there was once a luxurious mosque, a palace, residential buildings in which there were baths and toilets. The streets were equipped with drainages and running water. The remains of the city gates, the foundation of an ancient temple and palace ruins have survived to this day.
You can also get to this ghost town from Malindi using a car or taxi. The entrance to the complex is paid. It can be visited during the day, both individually and as part of an organized excursion. The fees for groups of up to 10 people will be significantly less.

While vacationing in Watamu, you should definitely visit the turtle beach, where you can go diving among luxurious coral reefs, as well as the ruins of the ancient Swahili village, a butterfly farm, and the mangrove forest mentioned above.

In addition to excursions and eco-routes, there are plenty of options for entertainment in Watama. For example, the city has a wide variety of bars and clubs, amusement parks, snorkeling, kitesurfing and diving centers. Shopping fans will be pleased to visit local shops selling African artisan products - jewelry and souvenirs made of stone and wood.
The rental housing sector in Watamu is also very diverse. There are luxury hotels and cozy complexes with traditional bungalows. In addition to the rooms, guests are offered spacious recreational areas with palm trees, swimming pools, sun loungers, hammocks. photo zones, etc.

If it is not yet possible to visit Kenya, Watamu webcams will allow you to discover all the beauty of this resort without leaving your own home or office.
