This house was built in the 30s of the last century on the square. Lenin, which was previously called pl. January 9. During these years, it was an ordinary four-story house, built according to the project of the architect Voloshinov. It had a good location, so the families of party workers lived here.
With the beginning of the war, an order was received to organize defensive points here. Sergeant Pavlov and Lieutenant Zabolotny were appointed commanders of the assault groups. In the autumn of 1942 they entrenched themselves in these houses. Civilians who did not have time to leave the city lived in the basement of this house for several weeks.
When the enemy troops entered the city, they blew up the house, due to which it was partially destroyed. 25 people remained, including Sergeant Pavlov, who continued to guard the house. Despite numerous attacks, Soviet soldiers continued the defense, which lasted 58 days.

Pavlov's house in Volgograd, whose webcams allow you to see urban landscapes in real time, began to be restored almost immediately after the end of the war.

In 1985, during the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Victory, a memorial wall was installed on the facade, and the house itself received the name of Sergeant Yakov Pavlov. The monument is a dilapidated wall with two inscriptions engraved on it. In addition, the names of the fighters who participated in the defense are indicated here. Not far from this house is the Museum of the Battle of Stalingrad. Now it is an ordinary house in which people live.
Volgograd is not a city with a thousand-year history. It was founded in 1589 and then it was called Tsaritsyn.
