Skopje, whose webcams can be viewed online on this page, offers amazing opportunities for traveling and gaining new knowledge about the culture and history of Macedonia.
The place of attraction for travelers in Skopje is the main square, which is decorated with unique monumental monuments. Also from the square passes the Stone Bridge, which connected the new districts of the city with the historical center. The building was built in the 15th century under Sultan Mehmed II. The construction took almost 20 years. Quite a long period of time. However, it is worth paying tribute to the builders, the building was not damaged either during the devastating earthquakes that raged here in different periods, or during the wars. At the same time, the entire Old Skopje was almost wiped off the face of the Earth. In the middle of the last century, the structure was reconstructed after unsuccessful mining by the retreating Nazis.
If you go from the square along the Stone Bridge across the Vardar River, you can see a magnificent fountain in honor of the mother of the great commander and conqueror Alexander the Great.
The sculptural group symbolizes mother and son at different ages. Opposite the hydraulic structure, there is a monument to the father of Macedon - Philip II.
In the Old Town itself, you can take unique photographs. Walking along the narrow winding lanes, you can see examples of ancient architecture, the minarets of ancient mosques and even the rarest exhibits of the 12th century, which miraculously survived earthquakes and other bad weather.
One of the outstanding cult sights of Old Skopje is the Daut Pasha Hamam. This Turkish bath was built during the reign of the Ottoman Empire. Today, within the walls of this facility is an exhibition of the National Art Gallery.
Moving a little north from the hammam and walking along Gotse Delchev Boulevard, you can see the ancient fortress, which was built for defense purposes by the Romans. Later, the building was restored by the Slavs who came to these lands. To this day, archaeological research is being carried out in the settlement, and the local administration plans to open a museum on the territory of the fortress. So far, you can get here for free. But it should be borne in mind that the complex is regularly preserved.
The whole journey along the main attractions will take about 15 minutes. But it is worth taking a couple of hours to explore the surroundings of the old city, which will allow you to feel the flavor and atmosphere of these places. For example, it will be interesting to visit the old bazaar, where you can not only feel the spirit of Macedonia, but also buy a good souvenir.
