Venice is one of the most attractive tourist destinations on our planet. Long history, amazing architecture, unique museums, and, of course, the unique urban appearance invariably attract millions of tourists here.
Venice has a special transport interchange. They move here along numerous channels, and urban transport is represented by gondolas and vaporettos (water buses). In addition, the city is spread over 118 islands. Therefore, when planning a trip, it is recommended that you first familiarize yourself with the peculiarities of moving along the canals, the cost of travel and the available routes.
You should also plan your excursion route in advance. After all, it is simply impossible to cover all the sights of Venice in a short trip.
However, there is an approximate list of locations and objects that you must see when traveling in Venice.
The hallmark of the city on the water is the Grand Canal. This is the central artery, which the locals call "the soul of Venice". It runs through the entire city, from the train station to the customs building. It is noteworthy that not the usual bank or embankment, but the piles of houses adjoin the water surface of the canal. Each building has two entrances. One goes to the water, the other, located on the opposite side, to land.
Moving along the canal, you can enjoy stunning views of the outstanding sights of Venice. Over 100 palaces were built in the city at different times. Also, 4 bridges have been thrown across the Grand Canal. This place gets its special splendor at sunset hours.
The most famous bridge in the city is called the Rialto. It is built in a narrow section of the Grand Canal and is the oldest of the four crossings. For a long time, it was the only structure of its kind built on the Grand Canal. Today, here you can not only take pictures, but also visit more than 2 dozen souvenir and other shops.
The central part of the city is St. Mark's Square. One of the banks of the main Venetian canal goes out to it. The square is bordered by the most outstanding architectural monuments of this great city - the Cathedral of San Marco with a bell tower, the Doge's Palace, an old library.
The Church of St. Mark is considered one of the most beautiful buildings not only in Europe, but also in the world. Within the walls of the cathedrals, Byzantine relics are kept, including a particle of the Life-giving Cross, as well as the relics of the Apostle Mark. The outline of the building in its layout resembles a cross. And the external and internal decoration is simply amazing.
