The Livu Square

The Livu square is located in the cityRiga, Latviaplaced between Meistaru streets, Sirgu and kaļķu iela in Old town. The area was founded in 1950 by the project P. Selitskogo, after the destroyed city building during the Second world war. It was known before "the square at the Philharmonic" as facing the square the building of the Great Guild in 1941 was a Philharmonic concert hall. In 1974 the area was partially reconstructed under the project Barons, the plan was built paths, with extra space for recreation, and in the Central part of the Livu Square is a small pool with a fountain. In winter time the square opens to the city skating rink. Current name the square received in February 2000. Various public holidays are held on the square Liv, often at this place hosts fairs and festivals. The square is also surrounded by various architectural buildings, as old and new. The oldest and the most interesting part of the square is the building on the street Meistaru. The street was created in the 16th century outside the town wall between the existing city wall and protective pour shafts. The building on the street Maester numbers 19,21,23 entertaining the fact that during construction the town wall was used as an element of the supporting structure of the houses
