The Freedom monument installed in the cityRiga,Latviawas founded in 1935 in memory of the fallen fighters for independence of Latvia. Previously on the area where today stands the Freedom Monument was a monument to Russian Emperor Peter I. the Monument is located in the center of the square in Riga, on brīvības Boulevard. The monument is made of red and gray granite, concrete, travertine and copper. Set at the base 13 of the statues and bas-reliefs that mimic the pages of history power, the legendary hero Lacplesis to brave the Latvian red Riflemen. On the top of the main pylon with a height of 19.5 meters stands a nine-meter statue of "Freedom" — young woman holding two elongated arms 3 stars, symbolizing the three flourishing provinces of Latvia — Kurzeme ( or Courland), Vidzeme (Livonia) and Latgale (Latgale). After Latvia joined the USSR in 1940 raised the question of the admissibility of this design, as well as its transfer, including the dismantling of the monument. But thanks to the participation in the discussion of the famous architect V. I. Mukhina (who was originally from Riga), academician of architecture L. Rudnev (who has long lived in the city) and Creator of the monument of academician of the Latvian SSR designer E. Stalberg, the monument was stored on the original form.
