The monument to Taras Shevchenko in Kharkiv — the monument to Ukrainian poet, writer, artist and thinker Taras Shevchenko. The monument is located in the center of Kharkov — in the Garden named after T. G. Shevchenko at the entrance of the Central Mall from the street Sumy. A monument is inseparable from the surrounding Park landscape and urban architectural ensemble. The total height of the monument — more than 16 meters, the height of the statue of Taras Shevchenko — 4.5 meters. The artistic style of the monument can be defined as socialist realism and Stalinist Baroque; interpretation of the personality of Taras Shevchenko, too, is a Soviet — as an ideological fighter for happiness of the common people, revolutionary poet. The authors of the monument are the Soviet sculptor Matvey Manizer and architect Joseph Langbard. The monument was inaugurated on 24 March 1935, that is 9 months after the Kharkov ceased to be the capital of the USSR. The monument is one of the symbols of the city.
