Milan is one of the most beautiful cities on the planet. This modern metropolis is located in Lombardy, in the northern part of Italy. It bears the honorary status of the capital of world fashion, as well as the main financial center of the country.
It is here that the fashion houses of such world famous brands as Prada, Armani, Versace, shopping centers of unimaginable scale are located, which are able to attract no less visitors than ancient cultural and architectural sights.
Despite the developed infrastructure, Milan does not forget its history and traditions. This is evidenced by the carefully preserved historical objects to this day.
The most beautiful temple in Milan is the Duomo Cathedral. It was built in the Gothic style, and its construction lasted for 6 centuries. The main material from which the temple is built is pink marble. Its facades are decorated with 135 spiers and 3400 sculptures, which give the appearance of the structure the features of an unimaginable diadem that has amazed the beholder with its magnificence for many centuries.
The interior of the cathedral is echoed in time with the external luxury. It was in the Duomo that the largest stained glass windows on the planet were created, displaying stories from the Bible. And in the temple tomb rests the ashes of Saint Carlo Borromeo, placed in a crystal coffin.
Work on the construction of the temple began back in 1386, when Gian Galeazzo Visconti was seated on the throne. Many experts believed that the project was impossible to translate into reality. In addition, the process of transporting rare material to the city center caused difficulties. For this, special channels were laid. And for the implementation of an unprecedented project at that time, new technologies were invented.
The architectural style of the cathedral, which has undergone changes over time, is also of interest. Gothic elements gradually began to recede due to involvement in the French tradition, and gradually the cathedral began to "acquire new outlines", which changed over the years, and later over the centuries.
Perhaps the desire to pay tribute to fashion, which at all times was inherent in the Milanese mentality, became the main reason for the protracted construction. The last details of the decor, including a bright ornament, were added to the building in the 19th century, and the cathedral received its complete appearance only in the 60s of the last century. But, be that as it may, the temple belongs to the greatest religious buildings in the world and is able to conquer even sophisticated travelers with the perfection of its architecture.
