Verbania is the administrative center of the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola in Piedmont. The population of the city is about 30 thousand citizens, and the total area is almost 40 km2. The town is nestled at the Borromean Gulf on a triangular promontory, the top of which is directed towards the heart of Lake Maggiore, bordering Switzerland.
The shores where the city is located today have been inhabited since antiquity. The first settlements appeared here around the 9th century BC.
Verbania was founded relatively recently, in 1939, from two villages - Intra, which was located on the eastern coast of Piedmont and Pallanza, overlooking the Borromeo Gulf. Thanks to the attention and efforts of the authorities, the young city quickly turned into a significant tourist center enjoying international popularity.
Verbania is considered the most environmentally friendly city in Italy. It is also often called the Garden City of Lake Maggiore. After all, gardening art literally permeates the streets of this town, making it an ideal place for a relaxing vacation and aesthetic pleasure. It was the beauty and charm of nature in this place that inspired such outstanding personalities as Gustave Flaubert, Charles Dickens, Stendhal.
The city will surprise even seasoned travelers with the diversity and scale of its parks and gardens, from where you can see the picturesque shores of Lake Maggiore, be alone with untouched nature, having rest in mind and body.
Along with natural beauties, old architectural objects have also been preserved in Verbania. Among the important temple buildings is the Church of Saint Remigio, which rises above the heart of the city and is surrounded by a unique park. And also the Church of Madonna di Campagna, which was erected in the 16th century on the site of a dilapidated Romanesque building.
A notable feature of Verbania is its duality. On the one hand, it is a modern city with a developed infrastructure and service sector. On the other hand, it is a charming old corner with atmospheric pitchforks, historical parks where monarchs walked. VIP boutiques here peacefully coexist with old restaurants, and on the streets you can see both world celebrities and poor students.
Another feature of this town is the presence of a large number of surfers. Near Verbania there is a wind rose, so surfers from various parts of Italy, Germany, Switzerland come here.
