Live webcam Gagra is installed on the playground.
In real time, you can observe what is happening on the street, as well as weather conditions. Gagra is the most developed Abkhazian resort, which is definitely worth a visit. Nature, architecture and history will leave positive impressions.
Gagra, whose webcams are available on the site, is located 22 km from the Russian city of Adler.
Just half an hour away you can find yourself in a fabulous place with a unique history and culture. This city is one of the few that boasts an abundance of natural and historical attractions. Castles, fortresses, lakes, mountains - all this is in Gagra. Webcams allow you to partially see the beauty of this area.
One of the main attractions is the Abaata fortress. Archaeologists suggest that they laid it around the 5th-6th centuries. In the Middle Ages, this territory was inhabited by various tribes, which often fought with each other. At that time, the fortress protected the inhabitants of Gagra from enemies from the side of the Zhoekvara gorge.
Then the Genoese came to these lands, who devoted most of their time to trade. Therefore, they were not particularly interested in the fortress. In the 19th century Abkhazian territory was annexed to the Russian Empire. And during these years, Abaata has changed. The Russians built bastions and loopholes.
Therefore, the building is unusual in that it has been repeatedly restored. Since different nationalities did this in different centuries, it is difficult to say exactly which architectural style prevails.
Abaata, as well as Gagra herself, is inextricably linked with the Prince of Oldenburg.
This man was the great-grandson of Paul I and was actively involved in the development of the city as a resort. Alexander Petrovich at some point decided to build a hotel, but one of the walls of the fortress prevented him. By order of the prince, they demolished the wall that faced the sea. The hotel still exists on this site.
There is also a church on the territory of the fortress. It was built around the 6th-8th centuries. This religious building is one of the most ancient in Abkhazia. The temple is not distinguished by artistic decoration. This is an ordinary rectangular building built from local limestone. On one side of the structure is the Bolnisi cross in a circle. Such symbols are typical for Georgian architecture.
Until the 19th century the church was used for its intended purpose, but then it was closed and turned into a store for gunpowder. After the establishment of the Soviet regime, it was still used for economic purposes. However, in the middle of the XX century. decided to open a weapons museum here. It was only in 2007 that the local authorities decided to revive the holding of worship services. After the reconstruction and the creation of a new iconostasis, services are being held in the church.
Gagra is worth a visit once, and if it is not possible to do it in the near future, then you can open webcams and walk around the city online.
