Koh Samui is considered a truly paradise island. Clean beaches with white sand and clear water, framed by lush exotic vegetation, unique temples and numerous statues, cozy restaurants with unique dishes - all this gives a real pleasure from the rest. That is why millions of tourists from all over the world flock here every year.
To see all the splendor of the island's surroundings, it is worth going to the top of the observation deck, past the Mae Nam point. This can be done on a scooter, a popular type of vehicle in Thailand. Despite the fact that the road is rather difficult in places, the views of the endless sea, lush jungle and the luxurious island of Koh Phangan compensate for these inconveniences.
On a hill, cozy bungalows are rented, where you can take a break with a delicious cocktail or stay overnight.
Here, not far from the Mae Nam observation deck, there is one of the picturesque Tan Rua waterfalls. You can get to it by walking up a wooden staircase, followed by a narrow walking path.
Another interesting waterfall, Khin Lat, is located near Nathon. A stormy stream cascading down the cliffs forms a natural pool with a stone bottom, where it is pleasant to swim and take a break from a long journey. A small Buddhist temple was built nearby, the highlight of which are memorable inscriptions with wise sayings.
Surprisingly, on the territory of Koh Samui there are not only Buddhist temples, but also places of worship belonging to other religions. So, for example, to the north of Nathon, next to the school of St. Joseph is the Catholic Church of St. Anne. This colorful building with a green roof is a working meeting house. The one-story building with an attached bell tower has a modest decor on the outside and simple interiors with a laconic decorative floor and crucifixes on the walls.
A must-see is the Khunaram Buddhist Temple. Here are kept the mummified remains of the great monk Luang Pho Daeng, who foresaw his death and today sits in a meditative position in one of the halls.
Another interesting temple, Phu Khao Thong, is located in a secluded area, surrounded by exotic thickets. A magnificent staircase with a railing in the shape of stylized dragons leads to the golden pavilions of the temple. And in the colorful main hall, decorated in red, gold and green tones, there are statues of the dark Buddha.
